UDI introduces mpmX to monitor application processes for asylum seekers in Norway

UDI (Utlendingsdirektoratet) is Norway’s Directorate of Immigration. It is responsible for managing immigration, visas, residence permits, and citizenship in Norway. UDI reviews applications, ensures compliance with immigration laws, and supports both applicants and other authorities throughout the migration process.

In search of a powerful solution for the analysis of processes in the area of immigration management, UDI has chosen mpmX. As the public authority was already using Qlik® as their BI tool throughout the organization, choosing mpmX meant that they could integrate Process Mining into their already existing BI platform and strategy with ease.

Initial Situation

UDI was in the process of developing a dashboard to monitor application processes for asylum seekers and other foreign residents in Norway. The application process is complex and involves a number of actors in addition to UDI: the police, health officials, an NGO, and several others. The project’s aim was therefore to integrate data from various sources, to visualize the application process and to monitor compliance with process design and time goals. Process Mining would play a key role in discovering, visualizing and monitoring the application process. Furthermore, Process Mining should contribute to a culture of data awareness and data-driven decisions, resulting in process improvement and reduced lead times.

Why mpmX

Since UDI was already using Qlik® as their BI tool throughout the organization, choosing mpmX with Qlik® at its core meant that they could easily integrate Process Mining into their already existing BI platform. Installation and setup were straightforward to perform on their own and required very little extra resources. Licenses and distribution could also be handled within Qlik® – no need for extra security, IT-compliance evaluation, database, servers, etc.

UDI was convinced by mpmX’s excellent capabilities in user experience, functionality, and the possibility to integrate very unique processes with the generic approach. Process analysis, monitoring, and modeling were easy to implement and adapt. Thanks to Qlik®’s well-established base technology, self-service Process Mining was made possible for UDI and took place in convenient, user-friendly analysis apps. UDI was especially impressed by mpmX’s good customer service and quick assistance during the testing period and beyond.

"The application process for asylum seekers and other foreign residents in Norway is complex and involves a number of actors in addition to UDI. The excellent user experience and functionality of mpmX convinced us, as well as their generic approach of being able to easily integrate even individual processes. Process analysis, monitoring and modelling were easy to implement and customise. We were impressed by the good customer service and quick assistance during the entire testing period and beyond."
